TOWN - LIVE AT TRANS-PECOS
Atlantic Rhythms 01
RELEASE DATE: October 7, 2016
TOWN is a collaboration between saxophonist Sam Hillmer (Zs) and guitarist/composer Arto Lindsay (DNA). This cassette collects three improvisations performed in January, 2015 at Trans-Pecos in Queens, NY. The music is, by turns, abrasive and atmospheric. Hillmer and Lindsay explore silences and negative space. In other moments, the duo generate a flood of sonic detail and weirdo beauty from sustained cacophony. Hillmer is a musician, artist, and curator living in Brooklyn, NY. He is a founder of seminal Brooklyn noise band/chamber ensemble ZS. Lindsay was a founding member of DNA -- arguably the most important band from New York’s No Wave scene. He is a well-known figure in Brazilian pop, a collaborator with Matthew Barney, a leader of parades, and a thrower of sounds in space.
Side A/B: Live At Trans-Pecos Part 1, Part 2, and Part 3
Three guitar/saxophone improvisations - both blistering and atmospheric - from experimental composer Arto Lindsay and saxophone troubadour Sam Hillmer. Together the two call this collaboration TOWN. Performed live in January 2015, these three pieces document the second of a special two-night set for Lindsay, a No Wave legend, at the revered Queens venue Trans-Pecos.
Live at Trans-Pecos is the first release on Atlantic Rhythms. The tape is limited to 200 physical copies, which all include a digital download code. Alternatively, 25 full-sized, hand-screened posters were produced, which will also include a digital download code with purchase. And, finally, a digital-only version of the album will be available exclusively through Bandcamp on October 7, 2016.
